Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki has been branded a racist for her impersonation of US champion Serena Williams during an exhibition match in Brazil

Wozniacki used towels stuffed into her singlet and skirt to enhance her curves during a hit-and-giggle game agianst Maria Sharapova. She later confirmed she was making light of her friend and rival Williams.

While the crowd appeared to enjoy the light-hearted moment, observers on the web weren't so amused.

One blogger posted: "...this isn't 'harmless fun' as one article described it. its racist. out and outright racism. mocking and making fun of the bodies of black women for a laugh? real funny, stupid white girl. real real funny."

Another blogger wrote: "It may have been done in 'jest,' but I love how people can can turn a black woman’s body and sexuality into a caricature. However, we should not have the autonomy to celebrate any successes of our own."

It is not the first time Wozniacki has mimicked Williams. She was filmed in a similar get-up last year, without the same outcry afterwards.
