Rugby league great Brad Fittler says Sonny Bill Williams has put himself in the same position as Hawthorn's Lance Franklin, in that he can demand whatever price he likes for a contract.
Fittler told SportsFan's Clubhouse that the biggest difference was that he could be lured away to a different code, which could be a disaster for the NRL.
"Hopefully we don't lose Sonny because the kids come through and they watch these players and follow them wherever they play, and I want them to think about playing rugby league," Fittler said.
"He (SBW) is a bit like Buddy (Lance Franklin) in that he has put himself in a position where he is in charge of the bargaining.
"He has done an incredible job since he has come back to rugby league."
Fittler told the Clubhouse that despite Williams signing a one-year deal with the Roosters, he believed that was part of a work-around to allow him to continue boxing in the off-season.
"I was always under the impression that he was going to stay for two years, even though he signed a one-year contract," Fittler said.
"I'm not sure how it all sits contractually, but Sonny will get the deal that Sonny wants because he has put himself in such a powerful position."
