Rain hits England's Bangladesh warm-up

England's hopes of some practice time out in the middle before the first Test against Bangladesh next week were hampered as the first day of their warm-up match was abandoned in Chittagong.

Play was scheduled to begin at 10am local time for a two-day fixture against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI but heavy rain this week led to a delayed start because of a wet outfield and square at the MA Aziz Stadium.

There was no rain on Friday morning but it was decided less than half-an-hour later to call off play for the day.

The fixture, and the one that immediately follows on Sunday and Monday, is an opportunity for Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett to stake their claims to become Alastair Cook's next opening Test partner.

England skipper Cook will miss both warm-ups after returning home to attend the birth of his second child, although he is expected to be back in time for the first Test against Bangladesh, which gets under way on October 20.

The BCB XI named a 12-man squad last week to be captained by Sabbir Rahman and featuring seven players with international experience.
