Brad Fittler knows all about the hype in grand final week, having been through six, and acknowledges that with more experience he got better at handling them.
"I thought it got more enjoyable," said Fittler to SportsFan's Will McCloy.
"Early on, a couple of hours prior to the game and the night before the game [it] was hard work, trying to sleep – you're just restless."
"And the drive to the game, whether you were on a bus or in a car – whatever it was – was really hard."
"But as you got older you just soaked it up and enjoyed it."
Fittler insisted that players and teams can get ahead of themselves during the build up to the grand final. He referred to his own lead-in to the 2000 decider for the Roosters against the Broncos, admitting he went in to the week and the game itself thinking too much about the result.
"As a player you can definitely stuff it up," he said.
"You've just got to get there relaxed, [and] catch the ball."
