Player dies on pitch, yellow carded

A referee has shown a Croatian footballer a yellow card for diving, unaware the player had died from a heart attack.

Guran Tunjic, a 32-year-old defender for Croatian fifth-tier club Mladost FC, fell to the ground in the 35th minute of the match against against Hratski Sokola.

The referee, believing Tunjic had simply taken a dive, brandished the yellow card before the medical unit were called onto the pitch.

"Doctors tried to help him but there was nothing they could do," a club spokesman told reporters. "He just fell dead on the spot."

Mladost officials said Tunjic had no known health conditions going into the match.
