South Africa's Morne Morkel has produced a delivery which is a candidate for the worst cricket wide of all-time.

Morkel, bowling for the Proteas against England in Wednesday's third Twenty20 International at Birmingham, was unable to land the ball on the pitch in one delivery in the opening over.

Of course, the ball brought back memories of Steve Harmison's wayward first delivery against Australia at the Gabba to open the 2006-07 Ashes series. However, at least Harmison landed his one on the pitch.

Naturally, both Morkel and Harmison's deliveries were called wides.

"Oh, my goodness me," commentator David Lloyd said immediately following the ball.

"The real echoes of Steve Harmison there," said fellow commentator Mike Atherton.
